5a9067ffc93e0Ruth M. McCord, 86, of Rockland, passed away Thursday night, February 22, 2018.

She was born in Van on April 15, 1931 to the late Harry “Hal” S. and Nellie (Albaugh) Myers.

Ruth graduated from Rockland High School in 1949. She remained active with the alumni association and coordinating class reunions.

She was a former member of the Venango Homemakers Club; and through her church, participated in the ‘No Supper Quilt Club’ and the blanket ministry.

Mrs. McCord was a longtime member of the Nickleville Presbyterian Church, serving on the funeral committee and as a deacon for many years.

Ruth was a talented seamstress and quilter; and an avid golfer. She enjoyed reading, bird watching, flowers, puzzles, canning, and baking cookies.

In her earlier years, she baked wedding cakes; before becoming a dedicated homemaker to her family.

She was married in Nickleville on May 16, 1950 to James W. McCord, and he preceded her in death on February 5, 1999.

Surviving are four children: Debbie Myers and her husband Larry; James M. McCord; and Mitzi Alden and her husband Gene, all of Rockland; and Sandi Best and her husband Tom of Nickleville; ten grandchildren: Blake Myers of Titusville, Dirk Myers and his wife Julie of Emlenton, Mason Myers and his wife Amber of Erie, Kayne Alden and Jeff Myers of Miola, Jesse Alden of Clarion, Jena Weber of Hummelstown, and Stefanie, Darcy, and James Best, and Brian Best and his wife Katy, all of Nickleville; her nine great-grandchildren include Paige, Madilyn, Brody, Jameson, Branson, McKayla, Addison, Bryan, and Lyllie.

Ruth is also survived by a sister, Helen Ray of Christiansburg, Virginia; a sister-in-law, Arlene Myers of Cranberry; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Eakin; a brother, Bob Myers; and a nephew, Jack Oakes.

There will be no visitation held. Private interment was in the Rockland Cemetery, Kennerdell.

Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service to celebrate Ruth’s life on Sunday, March 4th at 2 p.m. in the Nickleville Presbyterian Church, 169 Valley Church Road, Emlenton. The Rev. Dr. Darrell Knopp, church pastor, will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Nickleville Presbyterian Church, 169 Valley Church Rd., Emlenton, PA 16373.
