5a99bfd8dab5aDale L. Osten, 70, of Oil City, passed away Friday, March 2, 2018 at his residence while surrounded by loved ones, following a period of declining health.

He was born in Oil City on June 19, 1947 to the late James and Gertrude (Johnston) Osten.

Dale worked as a delivery driver for Country Belle and 7 Up early in his career. He then worked as a nurse at the Oil City Hospital, and the State Health Departments in Missouri and Virginia. He served in the U.S. Army and retired from the Army National Guard.

As his health permitted, he attended the Oil City Wesleyan Methodist Church.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing, old music and old movies, and reminiscing about old times with family and friends.

On February 11, 1978 he married the former Janice Ward, and she survives. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children: Danny Osten of Rockland and Rhonda Watson and her husband Randy of Franklin; five grandchildren: Adam Osten, Alyssa Osten, Joshua Osten, Patrick Watson, and Cameron Watson; and a great-grandchild, Peyton Osten.

Also surviving are five siblings: Sally Dimino of Costa Mesa, California; Mary Ellen Anderson and her husband Tom of Meadville; Peggy Kidd of Tionesta; Dean Osten and his wife Olivia of Springfield, Missouri; and Allan Osten and his wife Beverly of Erie. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews; and leaves behind his dear beagle, ‘Abbie.’

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his dear friend, Donald K. Garrison, who was like a brother to him and shared the same birthday; and his beloved beagle, ‘Annie,’ whose remains will be buried with him at his request.

Friends and family will be received Sunday (March 4) from 2 — 4 p.m. and on Monday (March 5) from 10-11 a.m. in the Hile-Best Funeral Home, 2781 Rte. 257 in Seneca, Cranberry Township. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home Monday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Lyle Langdon and Rev. Sam Wagner, officiating. The V.E.T.S. Honor Guard will accord full military honors following the service.

Private interment will be in Shaw Farm Cemetery, Cornplanter Township, Venango County.
