police-newHICKORY TWP., Pa. (EYT) – According to police, a man attempting to retrieve a dropped cell phone lost control of his vehicle and crashed in Hickory Township early Saturday morning.

Around 8:09 a.m. on Saturday, March 10, 60-year-old Michael C. Fryman, of Endeavor, was operating a 1999 Dodge Dakota Sport, traveling north on a snow-covered State Route 62, just north of Kelly Hill Road.

In an interview with police, Fryman stated that he lost control of the vehicle while attempting to pick up a cell phone that fell on the floor. The vehicle crossed into the southbound lane and traveled approximately 60 feet before leaving the west side of the roadway. The vehicle traveled another 150 feet through a wooded area before impacting several trees.

Fryman was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and suffered suspected minor injuries.

The vehicle sustained disabling front end damage and was towed from the scene by Barnett Towing.

Police said Fryman will be cited for the following traffic violations, pending further investigation:

- Traveling at safe speeds
- Roadways lane for traffic
- Safety Restraint Systems
- Vehicles required to be inspected

West Hickory VFD assisted at the scene.
