Corsica Man Angry About Being Put On Hold Allegedly Threatens to ‘Shoot Up’ Walmart with AK-47

mug-stavonichMONROE TWP., Pa. (EYT) – A Corsica man is facing felony charges after making terroristic threats to Walmart staff and then fleeing police on Sunday afternoon.

Court documents indicate the Clarion-based State Police filed criminal charges against 50-year-old James Lawrence Stavinoha, of Corsica.

According to a criminal complaint, Clarion Walmart called PSP Clarion around 3:23 p.m. on Sunday, March 11, concerning a call received from James Stavinoha, of Corsica.

It was reported that Stavinoha contacted Walmart on March 11 at 2:59 p.m. and was transferred to the Sporting Goods department as he asked about purchasing .22 ammunition. At 3:04 p.m., Stavinoha called Walmart again and was transferred to the Sporting Goods section concerning the purchase of .22 ammunition and was put on hold.

At 3:07 p.m., Stavinoha called Walmart again and expressed his anger to the Walmart operator about being put on hold. Then, Stavinoha told the Walmart operator, “I’m coming in with an AK-47 and shoot up you (expletive) people.”

Walmart personnel related that Stavinoha was prohibited from Walmart property.

At 3:51 p.m., Stavinoha entered Walmart and attempted to purchase ammunition. He was identified, and Walmart personnel denied the purchase. While Stavinoha was on Walmart property, As Stavinoha was backing out of a parking space, Trooper Sommers tapped on his vehicle – a black Jeep.

Stavinoha fled from Walmart and was pursued to PSP officers to a location at Firefly Court in Clarion Township. At that time, it was discovered that an adult male and a juvenile male were passengers in Stavinoha’s vehicle.

Upon contact with Stavinoha, police noted “he appeared intoxicated, with glassy, bloodshot eyes and a strong odor of alcohol on his breath,” according to the complaint.

Stavinoha was taken into custody and transported to the Clarion Hospital where he refused chemical testing.

During an interview, the juvenile male said that he was scared, and he asked Stavinoha to stop multiple times as Stavinoha fled from the police.

Based on the investigation, Stavinoha was arraigned at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 11, on the following charges:

- Fleeing or Attempting to Elude Officer, Felony 3
- DUI: General Impairment/Incompetent of Driving Safely – 1st Offense, Misdemeanor
- Terroristic Threats W/ Intent To Terrorize Another, Misdemeanor 1
- Endangering Welfare of Children – Parent/Guardian/Other Commits Offense, Misdemeanor 1
- Recklessly Endangering Another Person, Misdemeanor 2
- Harassment – Comm. Lewd, Threatening, Etc. Language, Misdemeanor 3
- Careless Driving, Summary
- Reckless Driving, Summary

Unable to post $25,000.00 cash bail, he was lodged in the Clarion County Jail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1:45 p.m. on Tuesday, March 20, with Judge Schill presiding.
