Garden Club of Clarion County Receives Beautification Project Grant, Offers Scholarship

garden club grantCLARION CO., Pa. (EYT) — The Garden Club of Clarion County recently received a grant to help with an upcoming beautification project.

The Club was one of 20 recipients nationwide of the 2018 Espoma Organic Plant America Grant.

The $250.00 grant will be used for spring planting by club members at its beautification project at the western approach to the Clarion River Bridge on Route 322.

Also, the Club is offering a $1,000.00 scholarship to a student graduating from a Clarion County school.

The Hannah Fox Memorial Scholarship is available to a student graduating from a public, private, or home school program and who is an entering freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior year in a college or university for the 2018-2019 academic year.

Applicants must be majoring in horticulture, floriculture, landscape design, conservation, forest agronomy, city planning, environmental concerns, land management or botany.

A complete application package is required.

Deadline for submission of the application is March 31.

The 2017 scholarship recipient was Michaela Higgins (pictured above), a North Clarion High School graduate in 2017. She is currently attending Grove City College and majoring in Conservation Biology.

Foxburg native Hannah Fox founded the Garden Club in 1929, the sixth such club in the state at the time.

The club, which has more than 60 members, meets the second Tuesday of the month, April through October, at noon. The meeting rotates around various Clarion County locations.
