CLARION TWP., Pa. (EYT) – Clarion-based State Police have released the details of a crash that shut down a portion of Interstate 80 on Thursday afternoon.

According to police, the crash occurred around 2:20 p.m. on Thursday, March 15, as a 2011 Kenworth tractor-trailer, operated by 35-year-old Robert C. Wolf, of Hermitage, rear-ended a 2012 Kenworth tractor-trailer, operated by 41-year-old Don Boatwright, of Texas, on I-80 eastbound at mile marker 65 in Clarion Township.

Both tractor-trailers were commercial vehicles that spilled cargo and blocked both eastbound lanes for approximately three hours.

Clarion Volunteer Fire Company No. 1, Shippenville-Elk Volunteer Ambulance, and PennDOT responded to the scene.

The roadway was closed between mile marker 53 and mile marker 70.

Traffic was diverted off Interstate 80 toward U.S. Route 322.

Backups were reported on several area roadways including U.S. Route 322, State Route 208, and State Route 338.

Wolf and Boatwright were using seat belts and were not injured.

Both operators were charged with traffic violations.
