Clarion Woman Faces Assault, Resisting Arrest Charges Following Domestic Incident

CLARION TWP., Pa. (EYT) — Police say what started as a domestic incident led to criminal charges for a 31-year-old Clarion woman over the weekend.

Court documents indicate Clarion-based State Police filed criminal charges against 31-year-old Kayla Marie Custer, of Clarion.

According to a criminal complaint, around 12:15 a.m. on Sunday, March 18, Trooper Berggren was dispatched to a residence on Moon Lane for an active domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, he found a male individual upstairs and a female individual downstairs. The known male individual stated that he was assaulted by his girlfriend, Kayla Marie Custer, but he did not want to pursue charges.

Trooper Berggren was pulling out of the driveway when the man stopped him and said that Custer was still downstairs breaking things. Troopers Knight and Berggren returned to the residence and found Custer upstairs.

When the man entered the residence after the troopers, Custer ran at him, pushed him with both hands into the door, and moved her hands to his face. Troopers Knight and Berggren then placed Custer under arrest and attempted to put her in handcuffs. Custer resisted and a chair was pushed over in the process. The troopers decided to take Custer to the ground to get the handcuffs on easier. Custer was taken to the ground forcefully but continued to resist being placed in the handcuffs.

While walking Custer to the patrol car, she resisted again and had to be taken back to the ground. While in the patrol room at PSP Clarion, Custer banged her head off the wall several times causing damage to the wall. It is unknown at this time the amount of the damage, according to the complaint.

Custer was arraigned at 2:05 a.m. on Sunday, March 18, on the following charges:

– Simple Assault, Misdemeanor 2
– Resist Arrest/Other Law Enforcement, Misdemeanor 2
– Harassment — Subject Other to Physical Contact, Summary

Unable to post $7,500.00 monetary bail, she was lodged in the Clarion County Jail on March 18.

She was released on Monday, March 19, after a $7,500.00 surety bond was posted by a professional bondsman from Pittsburgh.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 2:15 p.m. on Tuesday, March 27, with Judge Quinn presiding.
