Derek Carll Hileman

5ab56d5b960d7Derek Carll Hileman, 30, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 22, 2018 surrounded by family at UPMC Shadyside.

He was born July 31, 1987 in Oil City, graduated from Kittanning High School in 2006 and New Castle School of Trade’s welding program in 2012. He was a member of the 952 Labors Union.

He went through some difficult times, but what Derek’s heart lacked in physical strength, was made up in compassion. He had a gift in reaching out to people and never met a stranger—especially on the basketball court. He loved children, going to the beach, all sports, and dogs of any shape, size and color.

He was the beloved son of Karen (Mark) Carll of Acme and Bob (Susan) Hileman of Oil City, and brother to Paige (Jeremy) Grippo of Greensburg and step-brother to Jason (Heather) Lewis. He is also survived by nephews Tyler, Robbie and Dillon and immediate family including grandparents Bill and Bonnie Carll of Tionesta, Aunts and Uncles Carla (Mark) Woodside, Lynettte (Brian) Greathouse, Dean (Kim) Carll and Doug (Amy) Carll, all of Tionesta, Sue (Pete) Lindey of Oil City, Dean (Kim) Ritner and Carol (Kevin) Donahey both of Cranberry, and extended family including Bob Bower and family of Kittanning and Bonnie Ritner of Cranberry. Derek also had more than 20 cousins who have wonderful memories of boating and kidding around as they grew up together.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, George and Norma Hileman of Oil City; an infant cousin, Sarah Carll of Tionesta; and close friend Brendon Weber of Kittanning.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Shadyside’s ICU Coronary Care unit and appreciates all the prayers.

There will be a public visitation from 5 — 7 p.m. on Monday (March 26th) at Hile-Best Funeral Home, 2781 Rte. 257 in Seneca immediately followed by a funeral service at 7:30 pm in the funeral home, officiated by Rev. William E. Hastings, pastor of Seneca United Methodist Church.

The family asks in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made in Derek’s name to the Orphans of the Storm (Armstrong County Humane Society), 111878 State Route 85, Kittanning, PA 16201, the Venango County Humane Society, 286 S Main St, Seneca, PA 16346; or a local animal shelter of your choice.
