Strattanville Man Faces Theft Charges After UPS Mix-Up

STRATTANVILLE, Pa. (EYT) — A Strattanville man is facing theft charges after allegedly giving away items mistakenly delivered to him by UPS.

Court documents indicate the Clarion-based State Police filed criminal charges against 28-year-old Colton Tyler Shirey, of Strattanville.

According to a criminal complaint, on April 15, 2017, Trooper Beilman was dispatched to a location on South 5th Avenue in Clarion for the report of a theft. The victim stated that she ordered two end tables online and scheduled them to be delivered to her residence. UPS delivered the boxes to a different lot and told her what lot they delivered to when she called an enquired. She said she went to the lot and spoke to Colton Shirey. He told her that he gave the items away, and said he was sorry. She called the police, but Shirey had moved and the police were unable to locate him.

On March 23, 2018, Trooper Beilman was able to contact Shirey through his place of work. Shirey stated that he had returned the packages to UPS, but then changed his story and said that he took the items out of the boxes and gave them away. He also said that he received cash for the items, the complaint states.

Based on the investigation, the following charge was filed against Shirey on Wednesday, March 28, in Magisterial District Judge Duane L. Quinn’s office.

A preliminary arraignment is scheduled for 10:45 a.m. on Monday, April 9, with Judge Quinn presiding.
