BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Clarion women’s softball team (4-16, 1-3 PSAC) dropped a pair of road games to PSAC central foe Bloomsburg University on Saturday afternoon, falling in extra innings 3-2 in the early game before a 10-6 defeat in game 2.

Game 1

A pitchers’ duel for six innings, the Golden Eagles finally broke a scoreless tie in the top of the sixth inning, thanks to a clutch two-out, two-run triple by Moriah Lynn to make it 2-0 Clarion.

The lead would be short-lived however as Bloomsburg’s Kalynn Wheeland sent a 1-0 pitch from Sarah Gossardover the right field wall for a two-run homer, knotting the game at 2-2.

The game would head to extra innings and Clarion would threaten right away as Aryn Boyer led off the 8th inning with a double to left field. After a sacrifice bunt by Natalie Else, Taylor Nonnenberg legged out an infield single to third base but not far enough for Boyer to score from 3rd. Bloomsburg pitcher Alyssa Davies would bear down, getting back-to-back strikeouts to end the threat.

Wheeland’s sac fly in the bottom of the inning would be the difference as the Huskies escaped with a 3-2 walk-off victory.

Gossard suffers the tough-luck loss, tossing 7.2 innings, allowing just 3 runs on 7 hits, striking out one. Davies earned a no-decision while Tara Baney picks up the win after picking up the final two outs in relief for Bloomsburg. Nonnenberg and Cassidy Runyan led the way for Clarion, each going 2 for 4 in game 1.

Game 2

Clarion struck first when Nonnenberg stole home to give the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.

Bloomsburg would respond with single tallies in the first two innings, before erupting for 8 runs in the bottom of the 3rd to take control with a 10-2 lead.

Clarion would add a pair of unearned runs followed by an RBI single by Runyan to make it 10-4 after five innings of play. A wild pitch and an RBI groundout by Moriah Lynn would cut the deficit to 10-6 in the seventh but that would be all for Clarion as Bloomsburg closed out the doubleheader sweep.

Nonnenberg added another 2 for 4 effort at the plate, along with three runs scored. Lynn added two hits and an RBI as well in the nightcap.

Rebecca Kelley takes the loss in game two, throwing two innings, allowing six earned runs. Macy Rubin provided solid relief out of the bullpen, throwing four innings with no earned runs on five hits.
