Two Clarion County Career Center Students Receive Awards at State Leadership Conference

SHIPPENVILLE, Pa. (EYT) — Two Clarion County Career Center students were awarded medals at the HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) State Leadership Conference.

Two Allied Health Science students placed in the top three in their respective competitions.

Due to weather issues, the March on-site conference in Lancaster, Pa., was canceled and the students had to complete online testing for their competitions.

Becca Smith (pictured above on right), a 12th-grade student at Keystone High School, placed first in Medical Terminology and earned a gold medal. She also competed last year and placed third in this same state competition and attended the 2017 HOSA International Leadership Conference, which was held in Orlando, FL.

Erika Romo (pictured above on left), a 12th-grade student at Clarion-Limestone High School, placed second in Nursing Assisting and earned a silver medal.

The results qualify them to participate in the HOSA International Leadership Conference which will be held in Dallas, Texas, in June.

There were a total of three Allied Health students who participated in the state conference: Becca Smith, Erika Romo, and Joshua Gearhart who attends North Clarion.
