CLARION, Pa., (EYT) — A Clarion woman is accused of pulling a “baseball size” chunk of hair from a woman’s head during a domestic dispute on Saturday afternoon.

According to court documents, Clarion Borough Police Department filed criminal charges against 20-year-old Aailyah Lewis-Melendez, following a report of an assault.

Clarion University Police reported that around 2:10 p.m. on Saturday, April 14, a domestic incident occurred between two females at the intersection of Grand Avenue.

According to a criminal complaint, Clarion Borough Police Officer Wright arrived on the scene and observed that both parties were agitated and screaming at one another. After separating Lewis-Melendez and the known victim, he spoke with each individual.

The victim claimed that Lewis-Melendez became agitated during an argument over a dog urinating in the house and grabbed her by the hair, pulling out “a big chunk.” Office Wright observed a bald spot on the right side of the victim’s head that was about the size of a baseball. She alleged that she left the residence to go to her brother’s house, and when Lewis-Melendez continued to follow her, she flagged down the Clarion University patrol car.

According to the criminal complaint, Lewis-Melendez confirmed she was in a relationship with the victim, and the argument over the dog escalated when the victim threatened to get rid of the dog. She admitted to lightly pushing the victim and claimed she only pulled the woman’s hair because the victim was choking her. When Officer Wright did not observe any redness or markings on her throat, he advised her to turn around and place her hands behind her back and that she under arrest for domestic violence.

Lewis-Melendez allegedly refused and pulled away. Officer Wright and Patrolman Guntrum placed Lewis-Melendez against the cruizer, and she stopped resisting and was handcuffed.

She was arraigned at 9:50 p.m. on April 14, on the following charges:

– Simple Assault, Misdemeanor 2
– Harassment — Subject Other to Physical Contact, Summary

Unable to post bail $2,500.00 monetary bail, she was lodged in the Clarion County Jail.

On April 17, her bail was posted by a professional bondsman.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 1, 2018, at 1:30 p.m. with Magisterial District Judge Duane L. Quinn presiding.
