Sigel Man Faces Drug-Related Charges

JEFFERSON CO., Pa. (EYT) — Two brothers are facing drug charges after an anonymous tip led police to discover an alleged exchange of prescription medication in Brookville Borough, Jefferson County.

Court documents indicate a preliminary hearing for 56-year-old Robert L. Coon, of Sigel, and 61-year-old Frank E. Coon, of Brookville, is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on June 12 in Magisterial District Judge Gregory M. Bazylak’s office.

Robert Coon faces the following charge:

– Manufacture, Delivery, or Possession With Intent to Manufacture or Deliver, Misdemeanor

Frank E. Coon faces the following charges:

– Intentional Possession of Controlled Substance By Person Not Registered, Misdemeanor
– Use/Possession Of Drug Paraphernalia, Misdemeanor

Both men were issued certified summons.

Case details:

According to a criminal complaint, around 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 31, Officer Turnbull received a call from a known female stating she had seen a drug deal occur at a bank on Allegheny Boulevard in Brookville. The woman stated it involved a black pickup truck and a second green-colored vehicle, and both vehicles were parked near the front of the parking lot.

Officer Turnbull responded to the area and observed both vehicles as described. He saw the green-colored vehicle exit the parking lot and travel south. He approached the pickup truck and spoke with the man inside, who identified himself as Robert Coon.

Officer Turnbull spoke with Coon about the report of his vehicle being involved in a drug deal, and Coon denied the allegation. Officer Turnbull asked Coon if he could search the vehicle, and Coon gave his permission. Inside a glasses compartment on the ceiling of the truck, Officer Turnbull found a cigarette wrapper containing eight zolpidem 10 mg. pills. Coon stated he got the medication from his brother, and that he needed them to sleep. Officer Turnbull asked Coon to call his brother to come back.

Robert Coon’s brother, Frank Coon, arrived in the same vehicle that Officer Turnbull had previously observed leaving. Officer Turnbull spoke to Frank Coon who stated he and his brother had only exchanged money, not pills. Officer Turnbull informed Frank Coon that he heard Robert Coon call him and ask him to come back, saying it was about the pills Frank had given him.

According to the complaint, Frank Coon then allegedly admitted he had given his brother the pills to help him sleep and turned over a near-empty prescription bottle for alprazolam .25 mg with one-quarter pill remaining inside. This bottle and the medication are not consistent with the medications recovered from the vehicle.

Based on the investigation, charges were filed against the brothers on Friday, April 6, in Judge Bazylak’s office.
