JEFFERSON CO., Pa. (EYT) — A Brookville man has been charged with identity theft after he allegedly ordered merchandise in another person’s name and then attempted to intercept it at the post office.

According to court documents, Punxsutawney-based State Police filed criminal charges against 72-year-old Michael Leonard Lellock, currently incarcerated in the Jefferson County Jail in Brookville.

According to a criminal complaint, a known male reported receiving a package from UPS on April 27, 2016, that he did not order. The delivery contained a BLU Dash Cellular Phone from Fingerhut Corporation. The man contacted the company and was informed that an account with a $700.00 credit limit had been established in his name. The man’s name, address, phone number, and social security number were used to activate the account. The company also advised the victim that a laptop computer had also been ordered and shipped.

The complaint states that two days later, on April 29, 2016, the victim was contacted by the US Postal Service in Punxsutawney regarding a stopped mail delivery request with the name of Lellock attached. The victim confirmed that he never submitted the request and does not know or associate with Lellock.

On May 3, 2016, Lellock allegedly attempted to take possession of the package containing the laptop claiming he’d been contacted by “an attorney” who instructed him to take possession of it, the complaint indicates.

During their investigation, police obtained a copy of the “Hold Mail Request” and noted a cellular number was attached. Upon further inquiry, the cellular number led them to Lellock.

The following charges were filed against Lellock in Magisterial District Judge Jacqueline J. Mizerock’s office:

– Identity Theft, Felony 3
– Criminal Attempt — Theft By Unlaw Taking-Movable Prop, Misdemeanor 1
– Criminal Attempt — Theft By Deception-False Impression, Misdemeanor 1
– Criminal Attempt — Receiving Stolen Property, Misdemeanor 1
– Tamper With Public Record/information, Felony 3 (two counts)

He is currently lodged in the Jefferson County Jail on previous charges.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 3, 2018, at 9:00 a.m. with Judge Mizerock presiding.
