Clarion County Career Center Students Attend Skills USA State Competition

HERSHEY, Pa. (EYT) — Three local students recently competed at the Skills USA State Competition in Hershey.

Skills USA is a student trade organization that offers students in career and technical education opportunities to showcase their skills and talents and compete at both the secondary and collegiate levels.

Pennsylvania is divided into eleven districts representing every technical high school in the state. There are district competitions held annually to choose the competitors for the state conference.

To attend the state competition in Hershey, the students had to place first in their field at their local district competition in January. At the state level, each of the contests featured the first place winner from each district in Pennsylvania, making the students competing the top 11 students in their field in the state.

The PA Skills USA conference featured a record-breaking 1760 contestants this year.

Three students from the Clarion County Career Center attended this year’s event.

Dylan Summerville, of Union School District, attended as a Student Voting Delegate.

Taylor Cooper, of AC Valley, attended in the field of Cosmetology.

Josh Gagne, of Clarion-Limestone, attended in the field of Information Technology Services.

According to Randy Shook of the Clarion County Career Center, “Unfortunately, while we did not have a first place winner from the Clarion County Career Center, our students proudly competed and finished in the middle of each of their respective contests.”
