Wednesday Softball Wrap: Clarion Tops Moniteau

CLARION, Pa. (D9Sports) — Behind a big day at the plate from Maya Thornton, Clarion cruised to a 14-5 win over visiting Moniteau at Paul A. Weaver Park.

Thornton went 3-for-4 with a home run, a triple, four runs scored and four RBIs.

Also for Clarion, Carly Best was 3-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI with Kait Constantino going 2-for-4 with a walk and three runs scored, Brenna Campbell 3-for-3 with a walk and an RBI and Sydney Kiser 1-for-4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI.

Sadie Rudesyle got the win going seven innings allowing five runs on seven hits, a walk and a hit batter while striking out three.

Lexi Miller had a double and four RBIs for Moniteau with Amanda Dailey scoring twice.

Courtney Stewart took the loss allowing 14 runs, 11 earned, on 15 hits and three walks while striking out five.

REDBANK VALLEY 15, KEYSTONE 3, 5 INNINGS

NEW BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Dakota Hetrick hit a three-run home run, and Becca Kunselman also drove in three runs as Redbank Valley toppled visiting Keystone, 15-3 in five innings.

Kunselman also added a double in the game for the Lady Bulls while Torilynne Nelson was 3-for-4 with an RBI, Elania Miller 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and three runs scored, Brooke Holben 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs and Sami Leasure 3-for-3 with an RBI and three runs scored.

Montana Hetrick got the win for Redbank Valley.

Karly Berkery was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Keystone with Cora Black going 2-for-2 with a pair of runs scored.

KARNS CITY 17, UNION 3, 5 INNINGS

RIMERSBURG, Pa. — Emily Wolfe, Kate Allen, Emily Huff and Mackenzie Dunn all went deep to lead visiting Karns City to a 17-3, five-inning win over Union.

Wolfe was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and three RBIs, Dunn was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBIs, Allen was 1-for-2 with a run scored and two RBIs and Huff was 1-for-2 with a run scored and two RBIs.

Mackenzie Shay and Emma Clark each added doubles for the Lady Gremlins with Shay going 1-for-2 with two RBIs and Clark 1-for-1 with a walk and two runs scored. Alyssa Stitt added a 1-for-1 day with a walk, an RBI and two runs scored, and Taylor Ekis was 1-for-1 with a walk and two runs scored.

Jada Zitzman had a double and two RBIs for Union.

Shay and Logan Byers combined forces in the circle for Karns City.

Shay went two innings scoreless allowing two walks and striking out one. Byers pitched three innings allowing three unearned runs on three hits while striking out seven.

Morgan Cumberland took the loss.

FOREST AREA 13, SHEFFIELD 10

SHEFFIELD, Pa. — Makiya Bellotti, Jaycee Redick and Catelynne Boehme each drove in two runs to lift visiting Forest Area to a 13-10 win at Sheffield.

Bellotti was 1-for-5 with Redick going 3-for-5 and Boehme 4-for-5 with a double. Jen Lander was also 2-for-5 for the Lady Fires with Cassie Cochran going 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI and Jessica Wagner going 1-for-4 with a double.

Emily Leichtenberger hit a two-run home run while adding a double and three RBIs for Sheffield. She was 4-for-5 in the contest. Mya Grubbs was also 3-for-4 with an RBI and Marissa Grubbs was 3-for-5 with an RBI.

Jasmine Ginnery got the win going seven innings allowing 10 runs. She struck out four and walked three.
