Regulars from all Clarion County Senior Centers joined together in the celebration that included a welcome from the Clarion Area Agency on Aging Director Stephanie Wilshire, Clarion County Commissioners Ted Tharan and Ed Heasley, entertainment, and a meal.

Pauline Henry, of Clarion, received the 2018 Volunteer Spotlight Award from the Pennsylvania Department of Aging and was presented with the award at the celebration.

She was one of the 18 seniors earning the award. She attends the Main Street Center, in Clarion, and Center Director Kristi Wolbert offered some comments about Pauline.

“She volunteers at the Main Street Center where she helps not with one area of the center activities but as volunteered in every aspect of the center,” said Wolbert.

“She is faithful and dependable. Pauline doesn’t drive, but four days a week, no matter what the weather, she walks to the center. Whether she is packing home-delivered meals or serving as president of the advisory council meetings or serving as our tour guide for center trips, her mission is to help others.”

Clarion County commissioners earlier approved a proclamation for Older Americans Month 2018 with the theme of Engage at Every Age. Commissioner Tharan addressed the crowd and offered that all three commissioners (Tharan, Wayne Brosius, and Ed Heasley) have senior mothers who offer advice.

Entertainment included:

• Pastor Karen Parsh of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, of Knox, played the flute accompanied by Sharon Nesta;

• Lauren Skelley entertained seniors with a repertoire of songs from musical theatre and other songs;

• Kara Gabler sang with guitar and yodeled; and

• Freddy the Music Man ended the day.
