Logan Pistorius’ two-out, two-strike single to left in the bottom of the ninth scored Connor Schaffner from third with the winning run, as the Gremlins rallied from a 4-3 deficit going into its final at-bat to win the game.

That after Karns City scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings tied at three.

Moniteau (14-4) had rallied from an early 2-0 deficit to take the 3-2 lead on a two-out Wyatt Geibel single in the fifth.

But in the seventh, Cameron Blair and Jake Weckerly had back-to-back doubles with one out to tie the game at three.

The Warriors, after escaping a bases-loaded, one-out situation in the bottom of the eighth for Karns City, retook the lead, 4-3, in the top of the ninth when Jake Jewart doubled with two outs, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a Nick Sosigian single to center.

Karns City, though, was right back at it in the bottom of the ninth.

Blair led off the inning with an infield single, and Weckerly walked.

Schaffner failed to get a sac bunt down with Moniteau taking the out at third, but, after a passed ball, Steve O’Donnell walked to load the bases. Weckerly then scored on a sacrifice fly to right by Nolan Riley with Schaffner taking third and O’Donnell remaining at first.

Moniteau elected to intentionally walked Tyler Yough to bring up Pistorius, who came through with the winning hit.

Pistorius got the win going an inning of relief allowing a run on two hits.

Yough started for Karns City and was strong through eight innings before reaching 100 pitches. He allowed three runs on 10 hits while striking out three.

Jewart took the loss. The third Moniteau pitcher, he threw 1 ⅓ innings allowing two runs on two hits and three walks.

Hunter Fitzingo started and pitched six innings giving up two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out 11.

Chance Nagy couldn’t get the save giving up a run on four hits while striking out one in 1 ⅓ innings.

In addition to the winning hit and being the winning pitcher, Pistorius had the best day at the dish for Karns City as well going 4-for-5 with two RBIs.

Blair added a 2-for-4 day with a double and a run scored with Riley going 1-for-3 with a double, a walk, a run scored and an RBI and Weckerly going 1-for-2 with a double, a walk, an RBI and a run scored.

Nathan Sosigian was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI for Moniteau with Jewart going 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Geibel was also 3-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI.

The two teams will meet again at Kelly Automotive Park in the District 5-9 Semifinals Thursday, May 24.
