Clarion’s Zerfoss Named D9 2A Track & Field Championship MVP

BROOKVILLE, Pa. (D9Sports) — Clarion’s Brendan Zerfoss won the James Manner Award as the District 9 Class 2A Track & Field Championship Meet MVP Friday at Brookville High School.

Zerfoss had a strong meet while helping the Bobcats to a fourth-place finish winning the 200-meter dash in a time of 22.27 and the 400-meter dash in a time of 50.28. He also finished second in the 100-meter dash in a time of 11.42 to qualify for the PIAA meet in that event as well, although it is believed he will scratch in that event allowing the third-place finished, Elk County’ Catholic’s Jacob Kloss, a spot at the PIAA meet.

Zerfoss talked about winning the Manners Award

Zerfoss also talked about winning the 400-meter dash.

Zerfoss’ day was one of many highlights for local athletes with the KSAC taking home 8 championships in 2A on the day.

Keystone’s Brody Coleman won the District 9 title in the triple jump with a leap of 43-feet, 10-inches and also took second in the 300-meter hurdles in a time of 40.33 seconds to qualify for the state meet in both events.

C-L’s Riley Hummell was crowned champion in the javelin with a throw of 182-feet, 5-inches.

Redbank Valley’s Sam Hetrick won the high jump going over the bar at 6-feet, 2-inches. He talked about his title as well.

Moniteau’s Jacob Patton took home titles in both hurdles winning the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 15.53 and the 300-meter hurdles in a time of 39.68.

Patton’s Warriors teammate James Parenti won the discus with a throw of 158-feet.

Karns City’s Hunter Jones (2nd in the 400, 50.74) and Moniteau’s Kyle Norling (2nd in the pole vault, 12-6) also qualified for the PIAA meet.

Clarion had a couple of near misses for PIAA qualifying including a pair of relay teams that finished third.

The 4×400-meter relay squad of Noah Schill, Austin Hummell, Don Cunningham and Marshall Powers ran a time of 3:32.10, while the 4×800-meter relay team of Nick Scholl, Hummell, Cunningham and Noah Scholl ran a time of 8:25.56.

Hummell was also fourth in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:02.81, the same event that saw Moniteau’s Manny McLean finish third in a time of 2:02.01.

Also for Clarion, Nathaniel Lerch was fourth in the 3,200-meter run in a time of 10:16.43, while Powers was fourth in the 300 hurdles in a time of 41.14.

C-L’s Austin Newcomb just missed out of a state spot in the 110 hurdles taking third in a time of 16.24, while North Clarion’ Seth Berlin, a Forest Area student running in a co-op with the Wolves, was tied for fourth in the high jump with a leap of 5-feet, 10-inches.

Clarion took fourth with 53 points. Moniteau was third with 54 points. Brookville won the meet for the second straight year with 115.16 points. Elk County Catholic was second with 60 points.
