Clintonville Volunteer Fire Department, Superior Ambulance, Emlenton Ambulance, and Franklin-based State Police were also dispatched to the scene around 8:16 p.m.

According to Clintonville Fire Chief Gerry Rae, the crash happened around the 33 1/2 to 34-mile marker.

The chain reaction accident was the result of two deer running across the interstate in front of the first car. The first car slowed down, as well as the second vehicle. Then, the third vehicle rear-ended the second vehicle, and the second vehicle rear-ended the first.

The woman in the first car traveled up the roadway and then pulled off the interstate. She was uninjured. Her car was able to be driven from the scene.

The woman in the second vehicle — an SUV — was life-flighted to a Pittsburgh hospital.

A man in the second vehicle was transported to Grove City Hospital.

There were two Golden Retrievers in the SUV; they were uninjured. They were transported to the Clintonville Fire Station and kept there overnight.

The scene was cleared around 9:20 p.m.

The roadway was not closed during this time, as the berm of the interstate was used for thru traffic.

No information was available on the condition of the individuals transported for medical treatment.
