Elwood Eugene Shreckengost

Elwood Eugene Shreckengost, 97, formerly of Hannaville and a resident of the Crawford County Care Center in Saegertown, passed away on Thursday, May 17, 2018.

Born, August 6, 1920, in Tidioute, he was the son of Vernal and Donna Copeland Shreckengost.

He married Martha Bean on June 10, 1944, and she preceded him in death on December 15, 2008.

He enlisted on September 9, 1942, in the US Air Force and served with the 4000th Base Unit and was honorably discharged on December 6, 1945.

Returning from duty, he began working at the Chicago Pneumatic Company in Franklin as a machinist and retired after 40 years of service.

He was a member of the Mumford Chapel Church.

Survivors include his daughter, Carolyn Johnson and her husband Bob of Utica, three grandchildren, Micki Field and her companion Eric Zinz of Cochranton, Susan Zirkle and her husband Jeff of Conneautville, and Janice Pearce Warren of Jefferson, OH; five great-grandchildren, Cortnie McKenzie and her husband Michael, Matthew Field and his fiancée Ashlyn DeVore, Gregory Zirkle and companion Christina Nicholas, Madison Pearce and Rylee Warren; a great-great-granddaughter, Adelaide McKenzie, and also a great-great-grandbaby to be born in October; as well as a sister, Mildred Cheers of Cochranton and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife of 64 years, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Norman and Lloyd.

Friends and family may call at the Dickson Family Funeral Home, Inc., 123 S. Franklin St, Cochranton, on Monday, May 21, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday from the funeral home with Ron Shrecekengost, a nephew, officiating.

Military honors will be conducted by the Cochranton American Legion at the Lupher Chapel Cemetery.

Memorials can be made to the Shriners Childrens Hospital, 1645 W. 8th St. Erie, Barco Onocolgy Center, 16792 Conneaut Lake, Rd., Meadville, or the Alzheimers Association.
