CRANBERRY, Pa. (EYT) — Cranberry Area School District will be closed on Wednesday as school officials prepare for a possible teacher strike.

In a letter released on Monday, Cranberry Area School District Superintendent Bill Vonada notified parents of a course of action if teachers choose to follow through with a strike.

“On May 23, school will be closed. School will remain closed every day thereafter until we are notified by the CEA that they intend to end the strike and return to work,” said Vonada in the letter.

Vonada continued, “Once we are notified that the strike is over we will promptly notify you when school will commence. This notification will be via the school’s electronic calling system. It will also be posted on our District website and Facebook page.”

“Any school days missed as a result of the work stoppage will be made up beginning on June 5. Please know that we will do everything we can to ensure a successful end of the school year for your child.”

After a nearly unanimous vote on May 10, the Cranberry Education Association, which represents 96 teachers, nurses, counselors, and education professionals employed by the Cranberry Area School District, delivered a strike notice to the school board on May 11. The notice states that unless there is a resolution to the current negotiations by May 23, 2018, the members of the Association will be on strike.
