A-C Valley Softball Stuns NTL Champion Smethport, 10-2, as McNany Drive in Seven

SMETHPORT, Pa. (D9Sports) — Seventh-seeded A-C Valley stunned second-seeded and NTL champion Smethport, 10-2, at Smethport.

Cami McNany and Emily Wetzel each had four-hit days for the Lady Falcons with McNany also driving in seven runs.

McNany was 4-for-4 with a double, a three-run home run, an intentional walk and two runs scored with Wetzel going 4-for-5 with three runs scored and three stolen bases.

Also for A-C Valley, Brogan Armagost went 2-for-3 with a triple and a walk, Kelsie Terwilliger was 2-for-4 with a double, a walk and a run scored, Syd Rankin was 2-for-5 with three runs scored and Andrea Meals was 1-for-4 with two RBIs.

Syd Schmidt got the wing going seven innings allowing two unearned runs on five hits and three walks while striking out six.

Haleigh Larson was 2-for-3 with a walk for Smethport, while Abbey Woodard went 1-for-4 with an RBI.

Emily Treat took the loss allowing 10 runs on 16 hits and four walks while striking out five.

A-C Valley will take on Coudersport in the semifinals at a site and time to be determined.

DISTRICT 9 CLASS 2A SEMIFINALS

Johnsonburg 15, Redbank Valley 7

NEW BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Breaking a 6-6 tie after five innings, Johnsonburg scored nine runs in its final two at-bats to pull away for a 15-7 win over Redbank Valley at the New Bethlehem Little League complex.

The Ramettes had 15 hits and took advantage of nine Lady Bulldogs errors. In the sixth, Alyssa Kasmierski ripped a two-run homer while Maria Jones and Lindsey Kocjancic doubled home runs. Jones hit a two-run single in the seventh.

Jones wound up going 4-for-5 with five runs batted in. Kocjancic had three hits with a triple to go along with her double. Jordan Bundy doubled and singled while Haylee Zimmerman and Jenna Pavlock also had two hits apiece.

Trailing 6-1 going into the bottom of the fifth, the Lady Bulldogs tied it with a five-run rally. The first four scored on Becca Kunselman’s grand slam homer and Shylie Schreckengost made it back-to-back blasts with a solo homer.

Kaia Rearick, Dakota Hetrick and Lauren Smith each had two hits for Redbank Valley. Hetrick doubled.

Jones was the winning pitcher, giving up 11 hits while striking out seven with no walks. Six of Redbank Valley’s seven runs were unearned thanks to five Ramettes errors.

Hetrick took the loss for Redbank Valley. She didn’t walk a batter, striking out six while giving up 12 hits in 6 1/3 innings. Nine of the 14 runs she allowed were unearned.

Johnsonburg will face Cranberry for the District title May 31 at Heindl Field in DuBois.

Cranberry 8, Moniteau 1

OIL CITY, Pa. — In a game moved from Cranberry to Oil City because of field conditions, the top-seeded Berries didn’t allow the change to bother them getting revenge on a Moniteau team that had beaten Cranberry in the last two D9 2A title games with an 8-1 victory.

Andrea Watson was clutch in the circle going seven innings allowing one run on eight hits while striking out six.

Watson helped her own cause going 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI.

Natalie Barcinas and Malliah Schreck led the Cranberry offense with Barcinas going 3-for-4 with a triple, two runs scored and an RBI and Schreck going 3-for-4 with a double, a solo home run in the sixth, a run scored and an RBI.

Emily Duncan was also 2-for-3 with a solo shot in the sixth as well, while Maddie Cornelius went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Amanda Dailey accounted for the lone Moniteau run with a solo home run in the sixth. She was 2-for-3 in the game. Dolcey Shunk was also 2-for-4 in the contest for the Lady Warriors.

Courtney Stewart took the loss.

Cranberry will face Johnsonburg in the title game May 31 at Heindl Field in DuBois.
