The Tionesta Ambulance Service Inc. provides an emergency basic life support (BLS) ambulance service using a combination of volunteer and paid staff. Volunteers staff the ambulance 16 hours daily and weekends while paid staff cover eight hours on weekdays.

They respond to an average of 250 calls per year.

Their service area includes the following municipalities: Tionesta Borough and Green, Harmony, Hickory, Kingsley, and Tionesta townships. Tionesta Ambulance Service also provides mutual aid to Clarion, Venango, and Warren Counties.

The service’s main income sources are fees for service, membership subscriptions, and donations.

About the Tionesta Ambulance Service

The Tionesta Ambulance Service began in 1968 as a subdivision of the Tionesta Volunteer Fire Department.

In 1995, the Tionesta Borough Council adopted a resolution and created the Tionesta Volunteer Ambulance Service.

This continued until December 2017, when Tionesta Borough and the five townships in western Forest County took steps to form a municipality, which is represented on the Board of Directors along with a representative of the ambulance service. This was done to help stabilize the operations aspect of the service due to rising costs and decreasing insurance reimbursement.
