SUV Crashes into Truck on Route 36; Knox Woman Injured

TIONESTA TWP., Pa. (EYT) — Marienville-based State Police say a near-head-on crash occurred on State Route 36 in Tionesta Township, Forest County.

According to police, around 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 6, Shelby L. Hartzell, 28, of Knox, was operating a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe, traveling on State Route 36/Colonel Drake Highway near McDonald Lane, when she came upon a vehicle in her lane of traffic at a near stop.

Police say Hartzell applied her brakes heavily and subsequently lost control of her vehicle, entering the oncoming lane of traffic, and striking, nearly head-on, a 1997 Kenworth truck operated by 58-year-old Larry E. Diven, of Mifflintown, Pa.

Both drivers were wearing seatbelts.

Hartzell suffered suspected minor injuries but refused transport for treatment.

Diven was not injured.

Both vehicles were disabled in the crash.

Forest County Sheriff’s Department, Tionesta EMS, Tionesta Volunteer Fire Department, and Frank’s Towing assisted at the scene.

Hartzell was charged with a traffic violation.
