Clarion County Correction Officers Find Inmate with Marijuana Pipe During Cell Search

SHIPPENVILLE, Pa. (EYT) — An inmate at the Clarion County Jail is facing new charges after corrections officers discovered a marijuana pipe during a cell search earlier this month.

Court documents indicate that criminal charges were filed against 24-year-old Christopher L. Wyant in Magisterial District Judge Timothy P. Schill’s office on June 27.

According to a criminal complaint, around 3:40 p.m. on Saturday, June 2, Clarion County Corrections Officers Allio and Fink conducted a cell search of a cell on E Block which housed county jail inmate Christopher Wyant.

According to the complaint, while searching the cell the correction officers discovered the light fixture had been tampered with and had a burnt wire hanging out the bottom. Wyant was then searched by the officers and a marijuana pipe contained in a black rubber glove was located in his underwear.

The officers seized the item, secured it in an evidence bag, and forwarded it to Deputy Warden Sprankle.

On Monday, June 4, Chief William Peck met with Deputy Warden Sprankle and took possession of the evidence.

Chief Peck also attempted to interview Wyant at the jail in reference to the incident. The complaint states that Wyant was walked to the room where Cheif Peck was waiting, but refused to enter the room and requested to go back to his cell. No interview was conducted.

Chief Peck returned to the Clarion County District Attorney’s Office and field tested the residue inside the pipe using a NIK field testing system. The residue field tested positive for Marijuana.

Wyant was arraigned at 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday, June 27, in Judge Schill’s office on the following charges:

  • Possession of Controlled Substance, Contraband/Inmate, Felony 2
  • Possession of Controlled Substance, Misdemeanor
  • Use/Possession Of Drug Paraphernalia, Misdemeanor

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 10, with Judge Schill presiding.

Wyant is currently serving three and a half to seven years confinement on a first-degree felony burglary charge stemming from the armed robbery of a Clarion convenience store late last year.
