Inmate Facing Prison Sentence for Felony Robbery Charged with Vandalism

PAINT TWP., Pa. (EYT) — An inmate at the Clarion County Jail sentenced for felony robbery is facing new charges after corrections officers discovered vandalism of jail property in his cell.

Court documents indicate that 24-year-old Christopher L. Wyant was arraigned at 9:04 a.m. on Thursday, July 5, in Magisterial District Judge Timothy P. Schill’s office on the following charges:

  • Institutional Vandalism Education Facility, Misdemeanor (two counts)
  • Criminal Mischief/Damage Property Intent, Reckless, Or Negligence, Summary (two counts)

According to a criminal complaint, around 6:20 p.m. on Monday, June 4, Clarion County Jail inmate Christopher Wyant pushed the call button in his cell. A corrections officer responded to the cell and discovered the toilet paper holder was pushed into the assembly.

At a misconduct hearing within the jail on Thursday, June 7, Wyant admitted that he damaged the toilet paper holder. The damage estimate for the repair of the holder is $50.00.

According to a second complaint, around 9:20 p.m. on Monday, June 25, a corrections officer responded to a call bell and discovered that the light cover and bulb in Wyant’s cell were broken. Wyant stated that “he did it.”

He said the other inmate in the cell had nothing to do with it and that “maybe they will get me out of here if things keep breaking,” according to the complaint.

The damage was estimated at $278.60.

Wyant is scheduled to be sent to state prison to begin his sentence of a minimum of three and a half years to a maximum of seven years confinement stemming from a November 11, 2017 robbery.

A preliminary hearing on the vandalism charges and charges relating to an incident in which Wyant was found in possession of contraband is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 10, in front of Judge Schill.
