100th birthdayA Birthday Wish, brought to you by

Happy Birthday, Aunt Betty!

Submitted by Alexis Rupert.

Dr. Elizabeth Anastasia Rupert celebrates her 100th birthday on July 12, 2018. Born in 1918 in Emlenton, she was the first child of pastor John Hamilton Rupert and Eva Blanche (Elliott) Rupert.

Elizabeth grew up in the Emlenton area, and later on in Burnside, Pa. She was very close with her younger brother William N Rupert, a closeness that endured through daily visits until his death in 1994.

Elizabeth received her diploma from the Altoona School Commerce in 1936 and soon thereafter began a lengthy tenure (1939 – 1956) as a secretary for the Sterling Oil division of Quaker State Oil Refining Corporation in order to provide for her widowed mother and also her grandmother.

Wanting to further her career, she began taking college courses, graduating with her Bachelor of Science degree from Clarion State College in 1959. She then continued her education, earning her Master’s degree from Syracuse University in 1962, and finally her Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh.

At that point, Dr. Rupert became the Dean of Library Science at Clarion University from 1971 until her retirement in 1985, even serving a stint as Interim University President in 1977. The Library Science Program at Clarion University became accredited under her leadership. She continues to facilitate scholarships for students studying Library Science at CUP.

Dr. Rupert is a member of the Callensburg Church of God, where she was a long time board member, Sunday School teacher, and pianist until her health no longer allowed to her maintain those roles. She has always been a pillar of guidance for her family and continues to maintain that role through this day, actively participating in family gatherings and Bible studies.

Anyone wishing to send cards to celebrate this amazing milestone can send them to:
