Doris Jean Books Bell Nagel

Doris Jean Books Bell Nagel, 92, of Oil City, died peacefully surrounded by family, Sunday, July 15, 2018, at The Caring Place in Franklin, PA.

Born March 16, 1926, in Oil City, she was a daughter of the late Harvey R. and Zella Blauser Books.

A 1944 Oil City High School graduate, Doris was a homemaker for many years raising her children. She eventually went to work at the Polk Center, where she retired in March of 1984.

Doris taught Sunday School teen classes for many years at several different churches and was also the treasurer for Fertigs Gospel Tabernacle. Doris and her sister were volunteer singers with a group that sang in the local hospital. The group was called “The Larkspurs” and their singing ministry lasted over 25 years. She had a wonderful alto voice and loved singing for the Lord.

She loved time with her family and loved the Lord Jesus Christ with all of her heart, soul, and spirit.

On December 14, 1946, she was married Chester “Jim” Bell and was married for 28 wonderful years, until he passed away on January 23, 1975. Many years passed and then on February 14, 1983, she married Edwin C. Nagel, and they enjoyed 15 years together until he passed away on February 17, 1998.

Surviving is a son, Ronald E. Bell of Franklin; a daughter-in-law, Christine Berringer, and husband Mark of Franklin; five grandchildren, Dr. Shawn L. Bell of Seneca, Michael K. Bell, and wife Chrissy of Seneca, Bradley S. Bell and wife Brenda of Beaver, Brenda R. Bell of Blairsville, Barry C. Bell, and wife Abigail of Oil City; a great-grandson, Nathan M. Bell of Seneca; and a step-son Curtis Nagel of Henry’s Bend; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to her parents and both husbands, she was preceded in death by a son Larry R. Bell; a sister, Beverly A. Books; and a brother, Emerald L. Books.

Friends may call at the Morrison Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 18, 2018, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., with a 4:00 p.m. funeral to follow at the funeral home, with the Rev. David Hart officiating.

Interment will be in Fertigs Cemetery.
