Jefferson-Clarion Head Start to Open New Pre-K Counts Classroom in Knox

KNOX, Pa. (EYT) — Jefferson-Clarion Head Start, Inc. recently announced that they have received expansion funding to open a new PA Pre-K Counts Classroom in collaboration with the Keystone School District.

The classroom is located in the Keystone Elementary School and will provide pre-school services to a total of 15 children, ages three and four beginning this school year. Transportation will be provided by the school district for any 4-year-old children enrolled, while 3-year-old children must be self-transported.

Children accepted into the program will attend five days per week for approximately six hours per day and 180 classroom days each year. The children will receive breakfast and lunch as part of their day.

The Jefferson-Clarion Pre-K Counts Program is a high-quality prekindergarten education program funded by the PA Office of Child Development and Early Learning. Each child who participates in a PA Pre-K Counts classroom will have the opportunity to participate in educational experiences provided by a teacher with an Early Childhood Education degree who utilizes a curriculum designed to help children grow socially and academically.

Children between the ages of three and four whose annual family income is between 100% to 300% above the federal poverty guidelines, or a family of four earning less than $72,000/year are eligible to receive free Pre-K Counts services. Other risk factors may be used to determine priorities for selection.

Applications for 2018-2019 enrollment are available now and may be obtained by calling 1-888-623-7735 or 1-800-628-6150. Applications may also be completed online at www.jcheadstart.com. Apply soon to ensure consideration.
