Clarion Couple Accused of Barricading Child in Bedroom

CLARION, Pa. (EYT) — Two Clarion residents are facing child endangerment charges after a CYS caseworker allegedly found their juvenile child locked in a bedroom.

Court documents indicate the Clarion-based State Police filed criminal charges against 33-year-old Samantha Marie Woodside and 42-year-old Corey Dent Yachimowski, both of Clarion.

According to a criminal complaint, around 10:45 a.m. on May 17, a CYS (Children and Youth Services) caseworker went to a residence in Clarion Township and found a juvenile victim locked in her bedroom by two baby gates, one on top of the other, and the parents, Samantha Woodside and Corey Yachimowski, just waking up at the time.

The complaint states the gates were fastened into the door frame with screws and had to be removed with a drill upon the request of the CYS caseworker, who witnessed Yachimowski removing the gates with a battery powered drill.

The complaint also states that the caseworker reported the victim was chewing on a piece of paper towel, and when the caseworker asked why, the victim responded that she was hungry.

Around 4:15 p.m. on May 17, Corporal Krick and the CYS caseworker followed up at the residence and found that both gates were removed.

According to the complaint, the victim answered the door herself.

Based on the investigation, Woodside and Yachimowski were arraigned on Wednesday, July 18, in Magisterial District Judge Duane L. Quinn’s office on the following charge:

– Endangering Welfare of Children — Parent/Guardian/Other Commits Offense, Misdemeanor 1

Both defendants were released on their own recognizances.

Preliminary hearings are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 21, with Judge Quinn presiding.
