CLARION, Pa. (EYT) — An Ohio man is facing charges after he allegedly struck and damaged a local building with his truck and then drove away.

Court documents indicate the Clarion Borough Police Department filed the following charges against 57-year-old Greg Grzegorz Tomaszewski of North Royalton, Ohio, on July 16:

  • Accident Involving Damage Attended Vehicle/Property, Misdemeanor 3
  • Careless Driving, Summary
  • Fail to Stop And Give Information or Render Aid, Summary

According to a criminal complaint, around 10:09 a.m. on Sunday, June 22, Officer Wright, of the Clarion Borough Police Department, was dispatched to a known address for a report of a hit and run.

Officer Wright spoke to a known female at the scene who reported that a known male had come into the office and said he witnessed a truck hit the building, causing damage and knocking down a video camera, before leaving the area. The man also carried in the camera, which he turned over to the woman.

Officer Wright then proceeded to a local business, where he spoke with the manager who had just received a delivery; but, he did not know the delivery driver’s name and described him simply as a “Polish guy.” The manager provided Officer Wright with the phone number of the warehouse connected to the driver.

A known employee of the building’s owners provided video footage, from two angles, of the truck hitting the building. From the footage, Officer Wright was able to obtain a number from the trailer. The footage showed the male driver of the truck traveling west on Madison Road and attempting to turn left onto North 6th Avenue, striking the building, causing the truck to rock, tearing the camera off the building and taking a chunk of cement out of the building.

The complaint states that the truck stopped briefly then continued south on North 6th Avenue, stopping at the light at 6th Avenue and Main Street, where the driver exited the truck and walked back and looked for damage.

According to the complaint, while walking back to his truck, the driver was observed talking to a known female.

After viewing the video footage, Officer Wright returned to the Clarion Borough Police Department and called the warehouse number provided by the local business manager. A representative of the warehouse told Officer Wright that the driver of the truck was Greg Tomaszewski, provided him with Tomaszewski’s driver’s license number, and agreed to email him the registration and insurance information.

The known female who was seen speaking to the driver in the video footage then arrived at the station to report that she had witnessed Tomaszewski hit the building and had flagged him down. The woman said Tomaszewski walked over to her, and she told him he had hit the building. She said Tomaszewski got into his vehicle and left the scene, the complaint states.

The woman was able to obtain a photograph of Tomaszewski’s vehicle showing both the registration and the trailer number.

The total damage from the incident is estimated at $656.25.

Based on the investigation, charges were filed on Monday, July 16, in Magisterial District Judge Duane L. Quinn’s office.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 21, with Judge Quinn presiding.
