Knox Woman Accused of Shooting Man in Buttocks with .45 Caliber Handgun

ASHLAND TWP., Pa. (EYT) — A Knox woman is facing assault and reckless endangerment charges after she allegedly shot a man with a .45 caliber handgun that she mistook for an airsoft gun.

Court documents indicate the Clarion-based State Police filed the following criminal charges against 43-year-old Dana Marie Altman, of Knox, on July 23:

  • Simple Assault, Misdemeanor 2
  • Recklessly Endangering Another Person, Misdemeanor 2

According to a criminal complaint, around 11:12 p.m. on May 5, Dana Altman, was standing around a fire with three other known individuals and the known victim at a location on Saint Mark Road in Ashland Township, Clarion County.

They were shooting each other with airsoft guns and BB’s.

The complaint states that Altman grabbed what she believed to be an airsoft gun from the holster on one of the other individual’s hips, worked the action of the gun as if loading a BB, pointed the gun at the buttocks of the victim, and pulled the trigger.

The .45 caliber round from the handgun struck the victim in the left buttock.

The victim was flown from the scene by helicopter to Allegheny General Hospital for treatment.

Based on the investigation, charges against Altman were filed on Monday, July 23, in Magisterial District Judge Amy Long Turk’s office.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9:45 a.m. on Wednesday, August 8, with Judge Turk presiding.
