Knox Man Accused of Assault of Patient at Clarion Psychiatric Hospital Waives Hearing

MONROE TWP., Pa. (EYT) — A Knox man waived his preliminary hearing this week on charges related to an alleged assault that occurred at a local psychiatric center.

According to court documents, the following charges against 29-year-old Robert David Hanna, of Knox, were waived for court in front of Magisterial District Judge Timothy P. Schill, on Tuesday, July 31:

– Simple Assault, Misdemeanor 2
– Harassment — Subject Other to Physical Contact, Summary

Charges have been transferred to the Clarion County Court of Common Pleas.

Hanna remains lodged in the Clarion County Jail.

Details of the case:

According to a criminal complaint, around 4:58 p.m. on May 23, Trooper Fluke was dispatched to an assault that occurred at a local psychiatric center. A known male reported that Robert David Hanna struck him on the head.

Around 5:00 p.m., Trooper Fluke interviewed Hanna who allegedly said the victim provoked him by calling him a “[expletive] boy,” so he struck him.

According to the complaint, Hanna allegedly said he hit “some patient with an orange shirt.”

He stated that “he hit the victim a lot with his closed fist on the face and the back of the head,” and the victim did not hit him back. He also allegedly said that he knew what he was doing was “bad,” but he felt it was “okay” because of what the victim called him.

Around 5:30 p.m., Trooper Fluke interviewed the victim at a local hospital. The victim’s right arm was in a sling during the interview.

According to the complaint, the victim said he was walking down the hallway at the psychiatric center to get a soda from his room when he heard a growling sound and recognized Hanna. The victim reported that Hanna punched him hard and fast, two times on the side of the face, and the “lights dimmed out in his head.” He also reported he had pain in his elbow, shoulder, and right arm, and had a headache.

The complaint notes that the injury report from the hospital diagnosed the victim with a dislocated shoulder sustained from the fall after Hanna struck him.
