Clarion Car Club Formed, Meet-Up Slated for Saturday to Support Keystone Warriors
CLARION, Pa. (EYT) – A new organization for car enthusiasts was recently formed in Clarion, and donations collected at their upcoming meet-up event will go to support the Keystone Warriors organization.
Trent Frey, a North Clarion graduate and current computer science major at Clarion University, began organizing the Clarion Car Club this summer. Frey said he decided to create the club and begin having meet-ups to give people something more to do in Clarion, while also trying to combat some negativity toward car enthusiasts he has noticed.
“I’ve personally witnessed people look at me and or other car enthusiasts as a bunch of ‘troublemakers’ or ‘Hooligans,’ which just makes me a little upset. We are all very nice people, ages ranging from 16 to 60, and we are just very passionate about cars and other vehicles. I’m trying to show the car community as a whole in a different light by trying to raise money for good causes and just bringing some life back into Clarion,” Frey said.
“I personally love cars, and I have a lot of friends that are also very passionate about them. But, in this area, there is not much for us to do. So, that’s where I decided to make my own club and host our own meets.”
The Clarion Car Club held its first meet-up on July 6 in the Clarion Mall parking lot in front of the former Kmart store.
According to Frey, the meet-up was well attended with between 40 and 50 vehicles involved.
The online aspect of the club, a Facebook group named Clarion Car Club, has garnered a great deal of interest, already building up to over 250 members since Frey first created it in June. Members share posts on the group to discuss car related issues, events, humor, and more.
Frey said the group welcomes people with interest in any types of cars or other vehicles, contemporary, classic, or antique. Their first meet-up included everything from contemporary and classic cars to motorcycles, trucks, and jeeps.
The club’s second meet-up is scheduled for Saturday, August 11, from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. at the Clarion Mall parking lot in front of the former KMart building. This meet will also include multiple donation jars and possibly other fundraising activities to benefit the Keystone Warriors, an Eastern Pennsylvania based nonprofit corporation that helps support post-9/11 veterans and their families located in or with ties to Pennsylvania.
According to Frey, the members of the club chose the Keystone Warriors as the beneficiary of their Charity Meet after voting on a list of local and regional charity options.
“The Keystone Wounded Warriors won by a landslide,” Frey said.
As far as future events go, Frey said that is still to be determined.
“I would like to do a charity meet each month, but everything gets voted on in the club, so it all depends on what the people want to do.”
“I just hope we can grow as a community and keep doing community events.”
