Man Seriously Injured After SUV Crashes into Tree Off Route 36

JEFFERSON CO. Pa. (EYT) — A one-vehicle accident occurred on Tuesday afternoon on Colonel Drake Highway (State Route 36), in Oliver Township, Jefferson County.

According to Punxsutawney-based State Police, around 1:50 p.m. on Tuesday, August 14, 24-year-old Kendra M. Overbeck, of Brookville, was traveling southbound on Route 36, south of Laurel Ridge Road, in a 2003 Ford Explorer.

Overbeck was negotiating a downhill left curve on wet roadways when the rear tires of the Explorer broke traction, thus causing it to begin rotating counterclockwise.

The vehicle left its lane, traveling across the double yellow lines and the northbound lane. It began to travel down the embankment where it impacted a large tree with its right rear. It came to a final rest on top of the tree facing in a northwesterly direction.

Jefferson County EMS transported her to Punxsutawney Area Hospital for injuries of unknown severity.

She was using a seat belt.

A passenger in her vehicle — 44-year-old Antonia L. Gaskins, of Brookville — suffered suspected serious injuries. Jefferson County EMS transported him to Penn Highlands Brookville. He was not using a seat belt.

Another passenger, 39-year-old Wanita M. Cotton, of Summerville, was not injured; she was using a seat belt.

Overbeck was charged with a traffic violation.

Oliver Township Volunteer Fire Department Station 5, Lindsey 42 Punxsutawney Volunteer Fire Company, and Jefferson County EMS assisted at the scene.
