CLARION, Pa. – The Northwest PA region of EdCamp hosted a unique and popular teacher learning experience at Clarion University on August 14.

EdCamp is an innovative professional development program for teachers to share ideas in an interactive and highly participatory environment. EdCamps have been hosted all over the country and all over the world, and they are growing in popularity among teachers and administrators alike. This progressive, one-day event uses technology and candid dialogue as the basis for sharing experiences, best practices, and techniques to improve classroom instruction and learning.

What made 80 educators from around the western PA region want to commit a summer day to attend professional development? EdCamps are different from traditional conferences. They allow the participants to drive the conversations and presentations. And unlike traditional conferences, which cost money to attend, EdCamp events are fully sponsored, allowing teachers to attend at no cost. The focus is on fun and learning, rather than on making money.

This year’s EdCamp had inspiring sessions such as: Authentic Relationship-Building with Students, Flipped Classroom, Full Inclusion/Co-Teaching, Gamification in Education, Genius Hour, Green-Screening, Guided Groups, Mindfulness in the Classroom, Project-Based Learning, Universal Design for Learning, and Virtual Reality in Education.

The event accommodated 80 dedicated teachers from across the Western PA region. A variety of educators were represented from public, non-public, and alternative education schools, pre-K through 12th grade regular and special education teachers, along with pre-service teachers and higher education professors.
