BARNETT TWP., Pa. (ETY) — One person was rushed to the hospital after a driver fell asleep at the wheel and crashed his vehicle on Route 899.

According to Marienville-based State Police, the accident occurred on Sunday, September 2, at 12:27 p.m. on State Route 899, north of State Route 36, in Barnett Township, Jefferson County.

Police say 44-year-old Brian Hancher, of Claysville, Pa., was traveling south on Route 899 in a 2010 Nissan Xterra. The vehicle was approaching a slight right curve in the roadway.

Hancer fell asleep, and the vehicle entered the northbound lane and traveled off the northbound berm. The vehicle then struck a ditch and proceeded traveling south until it struck a culvert, overturned, and then struck a utility pole.

The vehicle came to a final rest on its roof facing north with utility lines on top of it.

Hancher reported no injuries at the scene.

Jefferson County EMS transported his passenger — 54-year-old Nancy L. Hubley, of Claysville, Pa. — to Brookville Hospital for suspected minor injuries.

Hancher was charged with a traffic violation.

Sigel and Pine Creek Volunteer Fire Departments, Jefferson County EMS, Windstream, Penelec, and East Main Street Towing assisted at the scene.
