CLARION, Pa. (EYT) — A Clarion man is facing theft and related charges after he allegedly stole Amazon packages from a Clarion Borough residence.
Court documents indicate the Clarion Borough Police Department filed criminal charges against 38-year-old Edwin Scott, of Clarion, on September 4.
According to a criminal complaint, around 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 15, a known individual contacted the Clarion Borough Police Department to report a theft. The individual stated that a black male in a McDonald’s uniform was observed leaving the area of his residence carrying Amazon boxes.
Officer Zerfoss, of the Clarion Borough Police Department, spoke with the manager at McDonald’s and learned there were two individuals matching the description, and the only individual not working during the time of the theft was Edwin Scott, who left work at 12:13 p.m.
Around 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 16, Officer O’Neil, of the Clarion Borough Police Department, contacted the victim by phone. The victim related that the items taken were a size S/M DasMeer full face green snorkel mask valued at $12.99; a Fashioncraft Indian elephant compact mirror valued at $6.01; a pair of Aegend swim goggles valued at $10.00; and a one ounce bottle of Quick Spit anti-fog spray valued at $6.39. The total value of the items stolen is $36.38.
Around 10:40 p.m., Officers O’Neil and Maxwell went to a residence on Corbett Street to interview Scott.
According to the complaint, after the officers advised Scott of why they were there, Scott became visibly nervous, with his arms shaking. When Officer O’Neil told Scott he was there to get the stolen property back and began listing the items, Scott said he knew what items Officer Scott was referring to and said they were upstairs in his bedroom.
Scott then invited Officer O’Neil upstairs with him to obtain the items. Once they were in the bedroom, Scott turned over the snorkel mask, goggles, and the anti-fog spray. However, when Officer O’Neil asked about the compact, Scott said he didn’t have it.
According to the complaint, once they returned downstairs, Scott told Officer O’Neil that he was given the items by a coworker. He gave Officer O’Neil the individual’s first name and said he did not know his last name. He described the individual as being shorter than him, with long hair and the same skin tone. Scott said he worked with the individual the morning the items were taken.
Officer O’Neil then returned to McDonald’s and spoke with the on-duty manager, who stated there are no individuals by the name Scott had given that work there. Another employee also stated that she worked with Scott on the morning of August 15 and that there was no one with the name he had given working at that time.
On Saturday, August 25, Officer O’Neil approached Scott and advised him that there was no one with the name he had given working at McDonald’s. Scott stated that he was unsure of the individual’s real name, but that he would be at work shortly. Scott also stated that he did not take the packages and that a known juvenile did, and the known juvenile then gave him the packages.
Through further investigation, Officer O’Neil determined that the known juvenile did not take the packages and was not in the area during the time of the theft.
Based on the investigation, the following charges were filed against Scott in Magisterial District Judge Duane L. Quinn’s office on Tuesday, September 4:

– Theft By Unlawful Taking-Movable Property, Misdemeanor 3
– Receiving Stolen Property, Misdemeanor 3
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 13, with Judge Schill presiding.
