Burton E. Johnson

Burton E. Johnson, 89, of Lakeview Manor in Smethport, formerly of Mt. Jewett, died Sunday evening, September 9, 2018, at UPMC Cole in Coudersport.

Born January 4, 1929, in Kane, he was the son of Carl A. and L. Hollis Lucore Johnson.

After his service in the U.S. Army during WWII, Mr. Johnson worked for National Fuel Gas for many years and was a deputy for the Fish Commission for eleven years.

Burton was a member of the Mt. Jewett United Methodist Church, a life member of the IOOF in Mt. Jewett and Smethport as well as the American Legion in Mt. Jewett, and, for several years, served on and was past president of the Mt. Jewett Council.

Surviving are two daughters, Terri (Andy) Chapman of Smethport and Helene (Jonathan) DuShaw of Warren; a son Charles (Jane) Johnson of Gainesville, Va.; a sister Leatha McQueen of Kane, and his grandchildren Nicholas and Alan Chapman and Michael and Mitchell Dodge. His longtime companion, Barb Metz of Allegany, N.Y. also survives, as do several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by brothers Carl and Clarence Johnson.

Friends may call at the Ronald McDonald II Funeral Home, Inc. in Kane on Saturday from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at which time a service will be held there with the Rev. Jon Swart, retired Methodist minister, officiating. Interment will follow privately in Gibbs Hill Cemetery, Ludlow.

Memorial contributions may be made to a church or charity of the donor’s choice.
