Emergency 911 SceneJEFFERSON COUNTY, Pa. (EYT) – Authorities have released the identity of the victim in a fatal mining accident that occurred Tuesday at a Rosebud Mining site in Snyder Township, Jefferson County.

Jefferson County Coroner Brenda Shumaker told that 27-year-old Kameron Rankin, of New Bethlehem, was pronounced dead at 6:01 p.m. on Tuesday following an accident near the Kocjancic Mine Project just outside of Brockway.

An autopsy was performed on Wednesday; however, Shumaker said a cause of death is not being released at this time.

According to Jim Barker, Executive Vice President of Kittanning-based Rosebud Mining Company, federal and state safety officials were at the mining site conducting an investigation on Wednesday.

The accident, which occurred around 4:00 p.m., is also being investigated by DuBois-based State Police.

It is believed that the accident was equipment-related.
