Looming Storms Force Start Time Changes for Some Local Football Games

CLARION CO., Pa. (EYT) — Due to concerns related to the possibility of severe weather this evening, multiple area school districts have altered the start times for Friday night’s high school football games.

The National Weather Services has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for east-central Ohio, northwest Pennsylvania, west-central Pennsylvania, western Pennsylvania, northern West Virginia and the northern panhandle of West Virginia, including the following counties: Tuscarawas, Carroll, Columbiana, Coshocton, Harrison, Jefferson, Mercer, Venango, Forest, Lawrence, Butler, Clarion, Beaver, Armstrong, Hancock, and Brooke.

The outlook forecasts an enhanced risk for severe weather late this afternoon and evening, with the main threat being damaging wind gusts. Large hail and an isolated tornado are also possible.

Schools around the area are starting football games earlier in preparation for the possibility of poor conditions later in the evening.

The following high school football games have been rescheduled from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.:

  • Bradford at Moniteau — Homecoming events will still take place at halftime, weather permitting
  • Clarion Area at St. Marys
  • Clarion-Limestone at Redbank Valley
  • DuBois at Oil City
  • Elk County Catholic at Union/A-C Valley
  • Karns City at Brookville
  • Ridgway at Brockway

The Franklin at Fort LeBoeuf football game has been pushed back to 8:15 p.m. and Franklin’s marching band will not be attending the game.

Also, the Punxsutawney at Kane game has been moved to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22.

The Keystone Homecoming game vs. Curwensville is still slated for 7 p.m. but all fans now must enter through the band-room door entrance (tickets are now being sold inside and passes will be accepted inside). The band-room entrance is the one that is to the left of the horseshoe as you are looking at the building. Homecoming activities will still take place at 6:30 p.m. on the field if weather permits. If the weather doesn’t permit then there is a contingency plan to move the event inside.
