Clarion Hospital Offering New Services, New Doctors

CLARION, Pa. (EYT) — Steven Davis, Interim CEO at Clarion Hospital, gave a presentation to the Clarion Rotary Club earlier this week, offering some facts about services that Clarion Hospital offers to the community. He also shared some information on new programs and spoke about the new physicians that have joined the Clarion Hospital team.

“I wanted to share a little bit about the current state of healthcare as well as to inform the public of the services Clarion Hospital offers as well as some fast facts,” said Davis.

  • Clarion Hospital is the second largest employer in Clarion County, with 361 full time and 100 part time employees.
  • Clarion Hospital is a teaching hospital with 10 family practice residents.
  • Clarion Hospital has 1,397 admissions in a year and 2,700 surgeries are performed.
  • 27,519 Radiology exams annually.
  • 200,000 lab tests annually.
  • 15,488 annual Emergency Department visits.
  • 89,366 annual Hospital Outpatient visits.
  • 65,738 annual Physician Office visits.
  • 100 babies are born annually.

Services include Advanced Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center, General Surgery, Acute Inpatient Rehab, Outpatient Therapy Services, Emergency Services including Ambulance Services, Inpatient Care including ICU with Hospitalists on site, Pain Clinic (Dr. Barrett), Women’s Health and Birthing Center, Ambulance Services, and Sleep Lab.

Additionally, Occupational Medicine services are offered at Clarion Hospital Health Works and The Cancer Center at Clarion Hospital provides both Radiation Oncology and Hematology/Oncology.

“Clarion Hospital has just received accreditation for Low Dose CT scans that is used for Cancer screening for long-time smokers,” said Davis. “We are focused on improving access to care and convenience to our patients.”

Clarion Regional Orthopedics welcomed Board Certified and Fellowship Trained Orthopedic Surgeon, David Smith to their team. A well rounded physician who prefers General Orthopedics, Dr. Smith is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons and the American Medical Association. He has a passion for practicing total joint procedures and enjoys treating sports injuries, degenerative diseases, tumors and regularly performs joint repair and replacement. A Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Dr. Smith has spent most of his career in southern Illinois where he has been in private practice for a number of years. Dr. Smith is excited to be a part of the Clarion Regional Orthopedic Team, Clarion Hospital Family and the Clarion Community.

Women’s Healthcare of Clarion welcomed Board Certified OB/GYN, Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgeon Anna L Pilzek, MD. For women suffering from urinary incontinence, having services at Women’s Healthcare of Clarion is a blessing. Urinary incontinence affects up to 55% of all women, and among these, 50% to 80% are identified as having stress urinary incontinence. An estimated 4% to 10% of women in the US undergo surgery to restore continence and this rate has increased steadily during the past 20 years. Adding these services will allow women to seek treatment right here in Clarion without traveling to a metro area for treatment. Dr. Pilzek began seeing patients at Women’s Healthcare of Clarion and performing surgeries at Clarion Hospital the first week in June.

A New Bethlehem native and a graduate of Redbank Valley High School Dr. Bryan Doverspike attended Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Erie, where he earned his medical degree in 2014. Dr. Doverspike went on to Residency at UPMC Pinnacle Memorial Hospital where he was Chief Resident. Dr. Doverspike returned “home” to practice here in our community and began seeing patients at Women’s Healthcare of Clarion in both Clarion and Brookville locations.
