Insulator Failure Leads to Power Outage in Clarion

CLARION, Pa. (EYT) — A power line insulator failure led to a power outage overnight in parts of Clarion Borough.

According to a representative of FirstEnergy Corp., the problem began around 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday, when the insulator on a pole along south 2nd Avenue between South Street and Church Street in Clarion Borough failed, causing a “hot wire” to make contact with the pole.

The wire then began burning the top of the pole.

A representative of Clarion County 9-1-1 said Clarion Fire & Hose Company No. 1 and Clarion Borough Police responded to the scene.

A crew from West Penn Power also responded and worked to attach a fiberglass extension to the top of the burnt pole.

About 514 First Energy Corp. customers were affected by the outage. A company representative said service was restored to most households by 2:35 a.m. and power was back on for the remaining few, those closest to where the insulator failed, around 3:30 a.m.
