Police Apprehend Clarion Man Accused of Strangling Woman

CLARION TWP., Pa. (EYT) — Authorities in Clarion County have apprehended a Clarion man accused of strangling a woman during a domestic altercation on Saturday night.

Around 8:13 p.m. on Saturday, October 6, Clarion-based State Police responded to a domestic violence call at 15873 Route 322 in Clarion Township.

According to police, 39-year-old Charles Zellefrow, of Clarion, and a 42-year-old woman engaged in a verbal altercation that quickly turned physical.

Charles “Chucky” Zellefrow allegedly grabbed the victim by the throat and lifted her off the ground. He then allegedly followed her to the adjoining room and lifted her off the ground by her throat a second time.

He fled the residence before state police arrived, and a warrant for his arrest was subsequently issued.

Zellefrow was apprehended on Tuesday morning and placed in the Clarion County Jail.

He faces two counts of second-degree felony strangulation, one count of second-degree misdemeanor simple assault, and one count of summary harassment.

Clarion-based State Police Trooper Drayer filed the charges on Saturday at District Judge Duane Quinn’s office.

Zellefrow, a registered sex offender, was convicted on sexual assault charges in 2000 stemming from an incident in Rimersburg Borough.

Additional details on the Clarion Township assault are expected to be released today.
