Auditor General DePasquale: Child Sex Abuse Victims Counting on Quick Senate Action

HARRISBURG, Pa. — With few scheduled voting days remaining in the Pennsylvania General Assembly’s session, Auditor General Eugene DePasquale on Monday urged the Senate to promptly pass a bill that gives adult victims of child sexual abuse a two-year window to seek justice in court.

“Victims of sexual abuse deserve to have their voices heard and the opportunity to receive justice,” DePasquale said. “I applaud the victims who have courageously spoken out and asked for the state’s help in holding their attackers accountable.”

The legislation, spearheaded by Rep. Mark Rozzi of Berks County, passed the House in late September.

It would remove a provision in current law that gives victims of past sexual abuse until age 30 to file civil legal action. If not finally passed before the legislative session ends November 30, the bill will die.

“A tremendous amount of work has gone into making sure victims are heard,” DePasquale added. “Now is the time for Pennsylvania to help them move forward and continue to heal.”
