North Clarion, Clarion Junior High Cross Country Teams Finish the Season in Style

KANE, Pa. (EYT) — Local junior high cross country runners had strong finishes to their seasons Saturday at the Northwestern Pennsylvania Middle School Championships in Kane.

Clarions seventh-grader Gia Babington finished second at the meet to reach all local runners.

Meanwhile, North Clarion’s girls’ team finished in third place behind a pair of larger schools in DuBois and Bradford with Clarion’s girls’ team taking fifth.

The North Clarion boys’ team was also third behind DuBois and St. Marys, while the Clarion boys’ had four runners at the meet so didn’t have enough to score.

Leading the way for the North Clarion girls were a pair of medalists. Brynn Siegel finished 15th and Nicole Fair 18th. Katie Bauer (23rd), Kylie Disney (28th), Emma Buckley (30th), Maddie Homan (31st) and Ava Best (34th) also made up the field for the She-Wolves.

Helping Babington in getting Clarion into fifth place were Lauren Lerch, Maya Wilshire, Madison Baker, Mercedes Cunningham and Grace Troese rounding out the girls scoring for Clarion.

Kaine McFarland led the way for the North Clarion boys and earned a 14th place finish while Patrick Young came in 17th overall. Conner Sliker (23rd), Nathan Culp (27th), Owen Shaffer (29th), Mason Shaftic (30th), and Caden Shreckengost (57th) finished out the scoring for the young Wolves.

Seth Weckerly led the Clarion boys followed by Jack Franchino, Ryan Altman and Blaise Cunningham.
