New Bethlehem Man’s Throat Slit During Bar Fight

NEW BETHLEHEM, Pa. (EYT) — Authorities say a Clarion County man is in critical condition at a Pittsburgh area hospital after his throat was slit during a bar fight in New Bethlehem late Saturday evening.

Clarion-based State Police was dispatched to Desperado’s Bar along Broad Street around 11:45 p.m. for a report of a fight.

Upon arrival, it was discovered that 36-year-old Matthew Atcheson, of Brookville, allegedly slit the throat of 27-year-old Damen DuBrock, of New Bethlehem, during the fight.

A medical helicopter was requested; however, neither STAT MedEvac nor LifeFlight were able to fly due to weather conditions.

Dubrock was subsequently transported to Clarion Hospital where he was stabilized and then sent to Allegheny General Hospital.

He is currently listed in critical condition and undergoing surgery.

Atcheson is being charged with Criminal Attempt-Homicide and other related offenses. He is awaiting arraignment.

Due to the nature of the crime, the Pennsylvania State Police Troop C Major Case Team was activated and dispatched.

The Clarion County District Attorney’s Office, New Bethlehem Borough Police Department, and Clarion Hospital EMS were also on scene.

Punxsutawney-based State Police Tpr. Derek Weaver is the lead investigator on the case.

The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone who was at Desperado’s Bar when this incident occurred is asked to contact Clarion-based State Police at 814-226-1710 or Punxsutawney-based State Police at 814-938-0510.
