SANDYCREEK TWP., Pa. (EYT) — A 19-year-old who drove a vehicle through a residence located along Route 8 is facing DUI and reckless endangerment charges.
Court documents indicate the Franklin-based State Police filed criminal charges against 19-year-old James Daniel Ausel, of Franklin, stemming from an accident that happened around 3:14 a.m. on Sunday, September 30, on Pittsburgh Road (State Route 8) at its intersection with Garden Drive in Sandycreek Township, Venango County,
According to a criminal complaint, on October 10, the Franklin-based State Police received lab results from Erie Regional Laboratory that showed that James Daniel Ausel had a BAC reading of 0.127 when he crashed his red 2018 Subaru WRX into an occupied residence.
The complaint notes that at the time of the crash, the victims were sleeping inside the residence, which is attached to the garage, stopping just two feet from where the victims were sleeping.
According to the complaint, when Ausel was interviewed, he admitted that he had been racing another car down the roadway prior to the crash, and also admitted to consuming an alcoholic beverage.
Based on the investigation, the following charges were filed on Tuesday, October 30, in Magisterial District Judge Matthew T. Kirtland’s office:
- DUI: General Impairment/Incapable of Driving Safely — 1st Offense, Misdemeanor
- DUI: Minor — 1st Offense, Misdemeanor
- Recklessly Endangering Another Person, Misdemeanor 2 (two counts)
- Purchase Etc Alcoholic Beverage By A Minor, Summary
Ausel is currently awaiting a preliminary hearing.
