Clarion’s Lerch Earns PIAA Girls’ XC Medal with 15th Place Finish; NC Girls Run Strong; Lerch Just Misses Boys’ Medal

HERSHEY, Pa. (D9Sports) — Clarion freshman Evelyn Lerch earned a PIAA girls’ cross country medal when she finished 15th at the PIAA Championships in Hershey Saturday.

Class 1A Girls’ Results • Class 1A Boys’ Results

Lerch, one of three District 9 girls’ runners to earn medals, ran a time of 20:47 in the Class 1A race. She was the second-fastest D9 runner just behind Northern Potter’s Amanda Ford, who took 12th in a time of 20:41. In Class 2A, Samantha Hayes of St. Marys finished 16th in a time of 20:22.

Back in Class 1A, Cranberry took 13th in the team race with 324 points with Clarion finishing 14th with 353 points.

Cranberry’s Lauren Varsek also finished in the Top 100 in the Class 1A race taking 86th, while North Clarion’s Rachel Bauer was 104th and Haley Bauer was 163rd. Clarion’s Bella Scott finished 122nd.

On the boys’ side, Nathaniel Lerch, Evelyn’s older brother, just missed making it two medals for the family as he took 26th, one spot out of medaling, just five seconds out of 25th.
